Advance voting gives voters who are unavailable on election day the opportunity to vote.
On Thursday, October 14 and Friday, October 15, 2010 voting locations will be equipped with touch screen voting units to accommodate individuals with visual impairments. These touch screen voting units operate with or without an audio file that assists with the voting procedures.
All voting locations are accessible to people with physical disabilities.
Voter notification cards will be mailed to all voters the week of October 12, 2009. These cards will indicate the dates, times, and locations of advance voting and regular voting.
Note: You are required to bring photo identification with you to the polling station to verify your identity and address
Who Can Vote?
You can vote in the coming municipal election, which will be held on October 25, 2009, if you:
- reside in the City of Mississauga or are the owner or tenant of land in the City of Mississauga, or are a spouse of such owner or tenant;
- are a Canadian citizen; and,
- are at least 18 years old; and
- are not prohibited from voting under subsection (3) or otherwise by law. 1999, c.6, s. 43; 2002, c. 17, Sch. D, s. 5 (2); 2005, c.5, s. 46 (1)
Voters' List Information
If you will be voting in the coming municipal election, which will be held on October 25, 2009, please ensure that your name is on the Mississauga Municipal Elections voters' list and that your personal information is correct.
To find out if your name is on the voter’s list prior to August 2010, please contact the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) at 905-813-2083 or visit www.mpac.ca
To find out if your name is on the voter’s list after September 2010, please contact the City of Mississauga’s Municipal Elections Office at 905-615-VOTE (8683) or visit www.mississaugavotes.ca
If you need to make corrections, additions, or deletions to your information / data in the voters’ list, you can make them between September 7, 2010 - October 25, 2010.
If you would like your name removed from the voters’ list, you may submit an application to the City Clerk between September 7, 2010 - October 25, 2010.
Proxy Voting
Any person who is a qualified voter may vote by proxy or may appoint as his/her proxy any other person who is a qualified voter. If you wish to appoint someone as your proxy, you must do so using the appropriate form, which is available from the Office of the City Clerk.
Proxy voting will occur between September 13, 2010 - October 25, 2010.
A person who is appointed as a voting proxy may only act for one person who is not a relative but can act as proxy for any number of relatives (including spouses, siblings, parents, children, grandparents, or grandchildren).
The appointment of a voting proxy must be made after nomination day, which is on Friday, September 10, 2010. Proxy forms must be submitted, in person, to the Office of the City Clerk, which is located on the 2nd Floor, Civic Centre, 300 City Centre Drive, Mississauga , ON L5B 3C1. The Office of the City Clerk is open to the public between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
