Curbside Battery Collection Update

As you may know, since 2016 the Region of Peel has been running a curbside battery collection pilot program, whereby household batteries are collected curbside twice per year in an effort to divert these items from the landfill.
I am very pleased to report that this pilot program has been quite successful thus far in diverting household batteries from the landfill. Since the program began in 2016, 39.2 tonnes of batteries have been collected and diverted from landfills. I would like to thank you for doing your part and participating in this great stewardship program.
The curbside battery collection program will be monitored for another year and the results will be reported to Regional Council. In 2018, the program will run as follows:
  • Collection events will be scheduled to coincide with Earth Week in April and Waste Reduction Week in October
  • Instead of using specially printed bags distributed by the Region, residents will be advised to use any transparent, sealable bag to set out their batteries
I hope you and your family will continue to participate in this great program and keep curbside batteries out of our landfills. For more information about the program, please visit www.peelregion.ca/waste .
