Earth Days 2017

April 22nd is Earth Day, and to celebrate Earth Day the City is also hosting a series of Earth Days events.  Here are some events you may be interested in:
20-Minute Makeover
Saturday, April 15, 2017 – Sunday, April 23, 2017

Join thousands of participants across Ontario who will volunteer for 20 minutes to pick up litter around their workplaces, schools and communities. Organize a group of your co-workers, family and friends, find a space in need of a clean-up, and register your clean-up for a fun spring event!  Register at www.mississauga.ca/earthdays
For those who have registered, garbage bags, recycling bags, gloves and  safety tip sheets will be available at your  local community centre, starting Monday, April 10, while supplies last.
Textile, E-waste and Confidential Document collection at Community Centres
Monday, April 17, 2017 – Sunday, April 23, 2017

Throughout the week, residents can drop off their unwanted electronics, used clothing and confidential documents at no charge to one of the City’s 11 community centres. Look for the marked bins.
  • Clothing-based items and textiles, including: hats, bags, belts, ties, footwear, bedding, pillows, linens, curtains, sleeping bags and yarn. All clothing items will be donated to the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline Program.
  • Electronic waste, including: computers, monitors, cell phones, electronic accessories, audio and video equipment, network equipment, video game consoles, wires, scanners, cable receivers, portable digital music players, batteries, fax machines, medical devices, printers, tonner and ink cartridges. Please note that CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes will not be accepted. All electronic items will be donated to Revolution Recycling.
  • Personal, confidential documents: anything that has personal information including names, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, or bank account information. All personal, confidential information will be serviced and destroyed by Iron Mountain Canada.

Earth Day Films

Join us for  Earth Day films including the National Geographic 2015 documentary, Bill Nye’s Global Meltdown: The Five Stages of Climate Change Grief, Watermark (2013) and Deepwater Horizon (2016). All screenings will be FREE!
